
National Competition
Young Bruneian pianists have the opportunity to compete for a place at the International Steinway Festival in Hamburg, Germany in September this year. Brunei Music Society, in association with the Steinway Gallery, Singapore, is organising the National Competition, from which the winner will go forward to the Regional Competition in Singapore.
Entrants must be Brunei Citizens or Permanent Residents of 10-16 years of age (under 17 on 6 September 2012)
Entrants must state that they would be available on the following key dates:
National Competition: 11 May 2012
Regional Competition: 28 July 2012
International Steinway Festival: 6 Sept 2012.
Venue: The Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong.
Judges: The National Steinway Competition will be judged by a small panel of international judges.
Works to be played: Three contrasting pieces from three different period styles must be included. Total play time cannot exceed 20 minutes.
The repertoire must include the first movement of a classical Sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Clementi or Schubert. The two others may be chosen from Baroque, Romantic, or Modern pieces. No concerti or transcriptions are allowed.
The three pieces must be performed by heart, and must be repeated exactly when performed in Singapore at the Regional Finals.
Prizes and certificates: All contestants will be given a certificate of participation. The winner, first runner-up and second runner-up will each receive $100 trophies, and the winner will be awarded $1000 towards the cost of attending the regional finals in Singapore.
Registration: The deadline for registration is 1 April 2012; the fee is B$50.
